studio Policy

PURPOSE

Understanding policies and expectations will help ensure a fun and successful musical experience.

LESSONS OVERVIEW

Students receive scheduled weekly lessons from August through May and one formal studio recital.

PRACTICE

Singing and playing the piano is a physical, mental, and creative exercise. DAILY PRACTICE is expected and required for progress. Parents should help their child include practice in their daily routine. Help instill a good practice habit from the get-go by making it a routine and help provide the quiet time. For older students, as activities and school demands increase, help your child continue to keep their practice routine. Remember that the biggest indicator of enjoyment is the feeling of growth and achievement. It’s very important that older students feel they are moving past the “baby stuff.”

Parents and students are strongly encouraged to communicate via text/email during the week regarding questions over assignments or practice, issues at home, etc.

MATERIALS

Each student will need to bring ALL MUSIC, ALL TECHNIQUE MATERIALS, and THEORY BOOK to EVERY lesson. Parents are responsible for the purchase of required materials.

LESSON EXPECTATIONS

Daily Practice: see notes on practice above and make it a good habit!

  • Theory assignments FINISHED, come with questions if you have them.
  • Regular, on-time attendance with a practiced assignment.
  • Hands Ready to Play (For Piano Students): Nails should be kept short to ensure proper technique. Playing with long nails is like trying to run in high-heeled shoes!

PAYMENT

Invoices will be sent by email at the end of each month and payment is DUE BY THE FIRST LESSON OF THE MONTH. Please pay by Zelle or check. If your check is returned you will be responsible for the bank fee in addition to the monthly payment.

SCHEDULING

Lessons are weekly and follow the set Studio Calendar. If you are having difficulty with your lesson time, it may be possible to switch with another student, but that is not guaranteed.

RECITALS

Students are expected to perform in our recitals. Dates are TBA. There will be a recital fee for each student.

ABSENCE POLICY

***Please take special note of this policy in order to avoid any misunderstanding.***

PAYMENT IS FORFEITED FOR ANY MISSED LESSONS. YOUR MONTHLY FEE HOLDS YOUR SPOT.

Teacher cancellation: In the event that I must cancel, I will offer a credit on the next month’s invoice.

COMMUNICATION

I welcome feedback and communication. You can contact me by phone, email, or text. For a last-minute communication on the lesson day, text is best.

DISCONTINUATION

I hold the right to terminate a student at any time due to inadequate practicing or continuous disrespect.

HOME STUDIO UNDERSTANDING

I teach from my home studio. I am always glad when students feel that it is a welcoming, calm, and enjoyable space.

Please be mindful:

  • Respect my home, family, and belongings
  • Respect the next student’s lesson time by not staying much past your lesson time
  • Keep actions safe – I know you’re a superhero, but save climbing and leaping for the playground
  • Keep phone conversations outside
  • Siblings should be supervised at all times and not disrupt the lesson
